Elderberry is a plant that is most highly recognized as a natural health remedy, combating colds, allergies, and the flu. All of our elderberry products are made from the dried berries of the Sambucus Nigra plant. These berries are naturally high in immune-boosting compounds that are specifically shown to help beat the cold and flu more quickly.
Health benefits of the elder plant include naturally improving colds, the flu, sinus issues, nerve pain, inflammation, chronic fatigue, allergies, and constipation. It boosts the activity of your immune system. Elderberry helps the body to release cytokines– which are messenger chemicals that immune cells use to communicate. Think of it this way- with more chances for your immune cells to communicate, they can “plan” a better attack against the invading virus! Elderberry also contains hemagglutinin protein- which has been shown to inhibit a virus’ ability to enter cells! If a virus can’t enter a cell, it can’t infect that cell, and it halts the viral life-cycle.
We always recommend to talk with your doctor and do your own research when it comes to using elderberry. Some of our customers take it preventatively year-round, others take it only when they are sick, just like medicine. We personally take it daily August through May when the kids are in school and exposed to a lot more germs. We take it in the summer only when we feel a cold coming on or if we are traveling. An adult dose is approximately one tablespoon and a child dose is approximately one teaspoon. You can take elderberry once a day or up to four times daily if actively fighting a cold or flu.
A few things distinguish us from store-bought elderberry syrup: quality, ingredients, and cost. As opposed to glucose syrup and other additives, we use raw, local honey in our syrup which has natural enzymes proven to improve seasonal allergies upon consistent use. Also, we don't add preservatives to our syrup, and our syrup is roughly 1/2 of the cost of store-bought elderberry syrup. It’s made fresh weekly and we used certified organic ingredients.
Our syrup should be kept refrigerated. It will last approximately 4 months in the refrigerator. You can also freeze our elderberry syrup in ice cube trays for up to 6-8 months and thaw out smaller amounts as necessary. This is a great option for those families who do not intend to use elderberry syrup preventatively on a daily basis.
